Ornamenta has a collection of hand carved figures such as dragons, earth ghosts, masks sceptres, and many more artefacts reproduced to the same standards as their archaeological originals.
China’s art history boosts a wealth of carved stone artefacts. The majority of which were mostly animal like carvings, symbolizing dragons, bats, snakes, fish, horses, etc.
Often you will find dragons in all kind of shapes and postures in all its power and might, ruling and protecting its citizens. The phoenix is the symbol of the Empress, mainly found on traditional textiles.
One of our most successful stone objects is the CONG
There is no explanation for the meaning of the cong. A cong is a square sided column with a cylindrical opening in the centre running from one side to the other. Often the corners are engraved with animal like faces called “taotie’s”. Congs were cult objects and buried together with their owner. The congs were also a symbol of status and power and only for the aristocracy
